UBC receives millions for new business school (WebPosted Jun 5 2003 02:40PM)
VANCOUVER - The head of one of B.C.'s biggest forest companies has donated $20 million to UBC's Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration to establish the Sauder School of Business. The gift by International Forest Products chair William Sauder is being called the largest single private donation to name a business school in Canada.
"At this stage, we wanted to give back to our country something as we have received so much," he says. "It's a wonderful place to live. It's a wonderful place to work." Sauder, who graduated from UBC in 1948, is a former chancellor of the university and a former chair of the board of governors. Premier Gordon Campbell was at UBC for the announcement. His government has committed an additional $1 million a year to the newly-named business school, to fund 125 new student spaces.
